Dh544 million allocation for Emirates Transport |

DUBAI — The federal budget has allocated
Dh544 million for upgrading Emirates Transport, equipping it to power
its growth strategy until 2010.
Hailing
the approval of the 2008-2010 budget by the Council of Ministers,
Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister of Governmental Sector
Development and Chairman of Emirates Transport
, said the allocation
will further enable Emirates Transport to reinforce its commitment to
the UAE Federal Strategy announced by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin
Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and
Ruler of Dubai
Al Mansouri was addressing the board meeting of Emirates Transport, which adopted the revised budget.
He said the upgrading of Emirates Transport will equip it to power its growth strategy until 2010.
He also highlighted the targets and indicators to be followed by Emirates Transport in the coming months.
The allocated budget of Dh200 million will finance 2,854 buses for educational institutions across the UAE.
This is part of a bigger fleet of 6,373 vehicles that will serve both the private and public sector.
The
budgetary allocation will also be utilised for construction of
facilities, and purchase of computers and workshop equipment.
The budget makes provision for 5,565 jobs including 4,491 drivers and 661 technicians and examiners.
Emirates
Transport has also an operational budget of Dh344 million for public
school transport and revenues from the same reached Dh262 million. The
board decided to increase the value of these contracts to enhance
revenues and further develop the performance of school transport
services.
The budget also made allocations to develop services and quality to meet international standards.
The
board also discussed a progress report on “Clients Feedback” — a
programme that was run to keep track of the quality of Emirates
Transport services.
The
report said there were minimal complaints against the level of services
and that all complaints were dealt with immediately. The need for buses by educational institutions across the UAE was also addressed promptly.
