Khalifa satisfied with Lulu Island's building plans: President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan yesterday reviewed at the Al Bateen Palace a model of the six square-kilometre Lulu Island development project. He was accompanied by General Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Also present at the presentation were Minister for Presidential Affairs, Shaikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Finance Department, Shaikh Mohammad Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Deputy Minister for Presidential Affairs, Ahmad Juma Al Za'abi, and officials from Surouh Real Estate.

Shaikh Khalifa expressed satisfaction with the project. He also expressed desire and determination to proceed with the country's development programme.

He gave directives for the provision of all sorts of facilities of comfort, including the best transport systems and recreation facilities, without compromising the environment of the country and to make the UAE a very attractive cultural, trade and tourism hub.

The president was given a detailed briefing about the whole project, including the phases of execution of the project by Surouh.

The 3.5 million square metre project will include the construction of roads, bridges, tunnels and pedestrian walkways to link Abu Dhabi with the island.

Buildings on the island will not exceed four-storeys and would include residential villas, apartment buildings, seven luxurious hotels, including five and seven-star hotels, resorts, offices, shopping malls, international schools and various sports facilities to cater for a population of about 20,000 people on the island.
