MEED forum to showcase Ras Al Khaimah's booming developments

UAE. Investment in, and development of Ras Al Khaimah is at an all time high with investments worth US$10 billion scheduled for the next five years. HH Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah will open MEED’s second Ras Al Khaimah Conference, taking place on 27 and 28 January 2008.
Under his patronage, MEED will host the two-day event supported by RAKIA at the Al Hamra Fort Hotel in Ras Al Khaimah. This forum is designed to showcase the latest information on all key current and upcoming projects in the Emirate including the Saqr Port expansion, the Rotana Hotel project and specific RAKIA investment projects.

Economic strengthening and diversification of the Emirate is moving at an incredibly swift pace with RAKIA alone having invested over US$408 million in local projects and attracted over US$950 million in outside investment since 2004.

Foreign trade in Ras Al Khaimah increased by 110% in 2005, with total foreign trade climbing to AED 10.4 billion in value. Development is occurring across a variety of areas such as tourism, healthcare, real estate, sporting facilities and retail. Developments in healthcare and education hold a total investment of over US$2 billion in the next five years.

Edmund O'Sullivan, Chairman, MEED Events said: “Ras Al Khaimah is emerging as one of the most attractive locations for investment, work and leisure in the new Gulf. This conference will shed light on the scale and range of opportunities currently on offer in the Emirate as well as highlighting upcoming development plans."

Confirmed expert speakers at the conference will include: Dr Khater Masaad, CEO, RAKIA; Omar El-Quqa, Executive Vice President, Global Investment House; and Dr Imad Haffar, CEO, Rakeen.

Dr Khater, Chief Executive, Ras Al Khaimah Investment Authority (RAKIA) added: "The increasing number of companies being set up in Ras Al Khaimah reveals the growing reputation of the emirate as a business hotspot. Investments have come from different sectors, which also shows our flexibility to accommodate various industry requirements and provide suitable infrastructure and policies to improve their business prospects.”

Over 30 leading figures from all key sectors will be addressing the most pressing issues facing RAK at the conference, with up-to-date and pertinent information. The conference is the ideal platform on which to exchange information and ideas. Panel sessions will provide the perfect stage for discussion and debate. The conference will also include discussions on La Hoya Bay Residence and Business Village and the AED 300 million Hilton Beach Hotel. 

Delegates and speakers come from a variety of fields such as construction, utilities, banking and finance, real estate, project management and hospitality, signifying Ras Al Khaimah as one of the most exciting emerging areas for future investment in the Gulf region.
