Rent defaulters may be detained

abu dhabi tenants who fail to pay their rents face the possibility of being prevented from leaving the country under new rules adopted by the abu dhabi rent disputes reconciliation committee, reported khaleej times. defaulters will be given a 20-day grace period after the expiry of the tenancy contract to renew it and pay the required lease charges. if the tenant fails to pay, the department will send the case to the rent committee which will issue orders to the defaulters to pay the arrears, and refer the case to the police for action. if the authorities cannot find the defaulter, an all points bulletin will be issued against him, meaning he will be stopped at the country's exit points. the defaulter may leave the country after paying the rent arrears.
