The golfing community's reigning superstars are uniting to
create Dubai's
premier residential golfing community - ‘Jumeirah Golf Estates'. Greg Norman,
Vijay Singh, Sergio Garcia and "the father of modern golf course design", Pete
Dye, are jointly involved in the conceptualization and realization of one of
the world's most distinctive golf developments.
Four courses - ‘Fire', ‘Earth', ‘Water', and ‘Wind' - pay
tribute to the power of nature, each employing the distinctive characteristics
of its own surroundings to deliver a unique challenge. They are surrounded by
individually designed residential communities which bring a new sense of luxury
and space to Dubai.
The courses
Fire
Designed by golfing legend Greg Norman, ‘Fire' is the first
of ‘The Great White Shark's' two ‘Eco-Signature' courses at ‘Jumeirah Golf
Estates', Dubai - and his first anywhere in the world. Designed to exist in
harmony with the natural desert landscape, Fire will no doubt prove a tough
and, needless to say, fiery challenge for golfers of all abilities.
Earth
The second of Greg Norman's two ‘Eco-Signature' courses,
‘Earth', is inspired by the great parkland courses of Europe and North America. Incorporating lush, garden-like vegetation
and traditional fast-flowing water features, ‘Earth's' design enhances the
already picturesque landscape and offer panoramic vistas of the entire course.
Water
Vijay Singh, a true golfing phenomenon, is behind the design
of ‘Water'. The course winds through naturally vegetated dune troughs,
following ribbons of wetland. The dunes themselves are vegetated with native
salt-tolerant tall grasses and sedges, for a natural look, and oasis and pond
areas are fringed with palm trees. This approach is unique in Dubai, resulting in a challenging,
traditional course that is dramatic in both appearance and feel.
Wind
In January 2007, ‘Jumeirah Golf Estates', Dubai, announced a world first in golf course
design, with the news that Sergio Garcia, Greg Norman and Pete Dye would join
forces to create ‘Wind'.
‘Wind' takes golf back to its most elemental roots, with a
traditional course in which the power and energy of the wind plays a core role.
The course is characterized by undulating fairways, thick rough, pot bunkers -
and of course, the swirling patterns of the wind - in a design reminiscent of
where golf started. And, ‘Wind' at Jumeirah Golf Estates brings all of those
elements to Dubai
for the first time.
The communities
The 4 courses surround residential communities that bring a
new level of space and luxury to Dubai.
Fire and Earth
communities
A collection of individually designed homes within a truly
breath-taking landscape, the communities surrounding ‘Fire' and ‘Earth' have
homes blending the best in modern living with the wonders of nature. Throughout
the communities, a sense of space has been afforded paramount importance. 75%
of all properties face the golf course, with the remainder facing lakes and
nature strips, allowing for inspiring, uninterrupted views from all.
The communities are encircled by a 16km jogging and cycling
track that link 4 community parks, as well as lakes and nature strips.
The 7 communities around ‘Fire' complement the beauty of
their desert setting, taking inspiration from rustic Tuscan and Mediterranean
architectural themes, including stucco, rough stone and brick.
The 6 communities surrounding ‘Earth' are inspired by the
lush vegetation of European and North American parkland. Dense greenery,
punctuated by swift-moving water features, provides a stunning background to
Mediterranean-themed houses.
Water and Wind
communities
The ‘Water' community contains a mix of villas, cottages and
low-rise apartments, all sharing views of, or nearby access to, ‘Water'.
‘Water' will seek to develop a real sense of community
living, with cottages and villas sharing access to a school, community and
commercial centres, a mosque and a garden centre. Serviced apartments are
available at the clubhouse, which has its own ‘Academy' and par-3 course.
Clubhouses
Serving the ‘Fire' and ‘Earth' courses, ‘The Norman
Clubhouse' is home to an ultra-modern practice facility and state-of-the-art
golf academy. The Clubhouse's ‘Sports Centre' caters for other sports as well,
featuring a fully-equipped gymnasium, tennis academy, lap pool and a
leisure-focused lagoon.
‘The Norman Clubhouse' offers a range of options for both
formal and casual dining, while the ‘Wellness Centre' offers a variety of
massage and spa treatments.
For the first time anywhere in the world, ‘Jumeirah Golf Estate's'
‘Little White Shark' golf academy at ‘The Norman Clubhouse' will allow golfer
of all ages and abilities to hone their skills, with professional training
programmes developed by Greg Norman himself. The academy's state-of-the-art ‘Golf
Learning Centre' will be developed during Phase I of ‘Jumeirah Golf Estates',
provides personalized instruction, with low instructor-to-student ratios, using
the latest technology and training knowledge to deliver real improvements to
every part of the student's game.
‘Fire' and ‘Earth' are scheduled to open in 2008, while ‘Water'
and ‘Wind' will be operational by 2009. The initial residential communities are
slated for completion in 2008.
